Pakistan’s armed forces have carried out strong retaliatory strikes against multiple Afghan Taliban checkposts after a deadly cross-border attack in South Waziristan. The incident took place in the Angoor Adda area where Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire on a busy bazaar and nearby homes. A mortar shell hit the civilian area, martyring one person and injuring five members of the same family. Several shops were also damaged in the attack.
According to the Lower South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner, the firing came without any provocation. Pakistani troops stationed along the border immediately launched an effective and forceful response. Security sources confirmed that the Pakistan Army destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts across the border. The military’s response is still continuing, and troops remain fully prepared to counter any further aggression.
This is not the first time the Angoor Adda sector has seen such violence. Similar mortar shelling from the Afghan side in late April injured civilians and damaged homes, forcing Pakistani forces to target Taliban positions. Earlier clashes in February also led Pakistan to launch Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban authorities in Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan. The Afghan side continues to deny any such involvement.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack, calling it unprovoked and blatant aggression. In a post on X he made it clear that Pakistan will never tolerate attacks on its people or any violation of its sovereignty. He reminded everyone that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has already sacrificed thousands of lives in the fight against terrorism. The governor assured that the government will not allow anyone to threaten citizens or weaken national security. He said the armed forces have the full backing of the nation and will defend every inch of Pakistani soil with complete resolve.
Security sources say Pakistani troops remain on high alert along the entire border. The latest incident once again highlights the fragile situation in the region and the urgent need for lasting peace. Pakistan continues to stand firm in protecting its people and territory against any cross-border threat.
