The United States has officially released the complete text of the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), providing the first detailed look at the framework designed to end months of conflict and pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement between the two countries.

The 14 point document, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, outlines a roadmap for ending military hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing economic restrictions on Iran, and launching negotiations on long term security and nuclear issues. The agreement was made public after calls for greater transparency regarding its contents.

One of the most significant provisions in the MoU is the commitment by both sides to immediately and permanently halt military operations. The document also includes a pledge by the United States and Iran to respect each other’s sovereignty and avoid interference in internal affairs.

Under the agreement, both countries will work toward a final peace settlement within 60 days, with the possibility of extending negotiations if both sides agree. The United States has also committed to gradually removing its naval blockade and reducing military activity near Iran, while Tehran has agreed to facilitate the safe passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Economic measures form another major part of the agreement. The MoU outlines plans for a $300 billion reconstruction and economic development package for Iran, supported by regional partners. In addition, the United States has pledged to begin lifting sanctions and issue waivers allowing Iran to resume oil exports and related financial transactions.

The document also addresses Iran’s nuclear programme. Iran reaffirmed that it will not pursue nuclear weapons, while both countries agreed to negotiate a mechanism for handling enriched nuclear material and future enrichment activities under international supervision.

To ensure compliance, the agreement calls for the creation of a monitoring mechanism that will oversee implementation of the MoU and any future final settlement. The final agreement is expected to receive endorsement through a binding United Nations Security Council resolution, giving it international legal backing.

The release of the document marks a significant step toward transparency as both nations prepare for the next phase of negotiations.
