A major Kashmir conference held in Dallas, Texas, ended with a strong call for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute based on United Nations resolutions. The event, organised by Friends of Kashmir, marked the anniversary of India’s decision to revoke Article 370 and Article 35A.
Members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora gathered for the conference along with representatives from Sikhs for Justice and other community leaders. Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston, Aftab Chaudhry, attended as the chief guest. Friends of Kashmir Chairperson Ghazala Habib led the proceedings.
Speakers expressed full solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They raised serious concerns about the situation in the region after India removed its special constitutional status in 2019. Aftab Chaudhry told the audience that Pakistan would continue offering diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people. He said the revocation of Article 370 and Article 35A had only made the dispute more complicated.
Ghazala Habib urged the world to pay greater attention to the struggles faced by Kashmiris. She highlighted the shared experiences of the Kashmiri and Sikh communities and promised continued support for each other in the fight for justice and human rights. Other speakers, including Aftab Siddiqui, Syed Fayaz Hasan, Ghulam Jahangra and Dr Fareeha Qazi, called on the international community to take a more active role in finding a peaceful end to the conflict.
Gurvinder Singh from the Sikh community stressed the importance of involving younger generations in human rights work. He said long-term commitment remains essential for real progress. The conference closed by adopting a clear resolution. It asked the global community to back a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue according to relevant UN resolutions and to protect the basic rights of the Kashmiri people.
The gathering reflected the ongoing efforts of the diaspora to keep international focus on the long-standing dispute and to push for a fair outcome that respects the will of the people.
