A school van accident in Murree left 11 people injured after a vehicle carrying schoolchildren reportedly went off the road and plunged into a ravine on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The incident took place on Angoori Road near Lower Mohra Barahotra, where the van reportedly lost control and fell off the roadside before catching fire. According to rescue officials, the vehicle was carrying children from both private and government schools.
Rescue teams reached the scene and shifted the injured occupants to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Murree for medical treatment. District Police Officer Murree Raza Tanveer also visited the hospital and checked on the condition of the injured children.
Officials said eight injured children were in stable condition following the accident. However, three children, identified as Arham, Hasan Talib and Ayesha, were referred for further medical care.
Initial information indicates that 11 people were travelling in the van, despite the vehicle having a designated capacity of eight passengers. All occupants reportedly suffered injuries after the vehicle caught fire.
A preliminary report suggested that the van fire may have started because of battery sparking. The report also noted that the vehicle reportedly did not have a fire extinguisher at the time of the incident.
The accident has raised concerns about school van safety, passenger capacity and emergency preparedness. Proper vehicle maintenance, safe passenger limits and the availability of basic firefighting equipment can be important safety measures for vehicles transporting children.
