The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently in the process of finalizing a comprehensive overhaul of the central contracts for its national cricketers. Sources confirm that these new agreements are anticipated to take effect on July 1, 2026, as the current three-year financial model expires at the end of June. While the previous structure was introduced under a different administration, the upcoming framework will be under the direct oversight of the current PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.
The upcoming cycle is expected to bring significant changes to the squad’s hierarchy, with a strong focus on fitness and performance as the primary metrics for selection. This rigorous approach means several players may face demotions or promotions based on their recent contributions on the field. In a surprising move, insiders suggest that established names like Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, and Faheem Ashraf are among those whose retention in the new central contracts remains uncertain.
In addition to potential departures, the PCB is actively looking to reward domestic talent. Emerging players such as Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal are being considered for inclusion, reflecting the board’s desire to integrate fresh and energetic players into the national system. This transition follows a unique period last year where no player was included in the board’s highest category, Category A, for the first time.
As the July 1 deadline approaches, these new agreements represent a major shift in how the PCB manages its professional talent, aiming to build a more disciplined and performance-driven national team.
