Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York, where both leaders discussed the regional security situation, international affairs, and Pakistan’s growing role in promoting peace and stability.
During the meeting, the discussion highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that helped facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran, leading to an important agreement. The conversation also focused on Pakistan’s long standing commitment to supporting regional and global peace through constructive diplomacy and cooperation.
Antonio Guterres praised Pakistan’s contributions to peace, recognizing the country’s continued efforts to reduce tensions and encourage peaceful solutions to regional challenges. He acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and supporting international stability.
On the sidelines of the United Nations meetings, Mohsin Naqvi also held talks with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev. Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between their interior ministries. The agreement aims to improve coordination on security related matters and expand cooperation in several important areas.
The ministers reviewed the progress made since their previous meeting and explored opportunities to increase collaboration in counterterrorism, counter narcotics, cybercrime prevention, and police training. They also discussed the growing threat posed by terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan and emphasized the need for a coordinated regional response.
During the talks, Naqvi stated that more than 25 terrorist organizations remain active in Afghanistan. He stressed that eliminating terrorism requires collective international action and stronger cooperation among regional partners.
Naqvi also invited his Russian counterpart to visit Pakistan, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to expanding relations with Moscow. The meeting reflected Pakistan’s continued efforts to strengthen international partnerships while promoting regional security, peace, and cooperation through diplomacy and joint action against shared security threats.
