The tragic Lahore tuition centre collapse in the Kahna area has taken a serious turn as Punjab Police labeled the incident as criminal negligence and formally launched an investigation. The heartbreaking accident claimed the lives of 14 children, leaving families in deep grief and raising major concerns about building safety.
According to police officials, all suspects named in the case have been arrested, and investigators are now reviewing whether more legal sections should be added. Authorities are also considering including the female teacher who was conducting the class at the time, although she has not yet been named in the FIR.
In her statement, the teacher explained that she was teaching around 30 to 35 students regularly and said that financial difficulties forced them to continue classes despite poor conditions. She revealed that rainwater had been leaking through the roof, and repair work was underway while classes were still being held.
At the time of the collapse, at least 20 children and the teacher were inside the tuition centre. The sudden collapse caused severe injuries, with most of the children suffering critical head injuries, which proved fatal.
A preliminary report submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the roof, made of T-iron and girders, collapsed because of excessive debris and soil placed on top during repair work. Investigators also found that the structure was already weak and unable to handle the extra weight.
Officials have so far found no direct negligence from any government department, but the police have detained five people, including the building owner and his brother. The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for strict safety checks in educational institutions to prevent such devastating tragedies in the future.
