The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has successfully completed the 132kV Noorpur Pakpattan Transmission Line Project, marking a significant step toward improving the region’s electricity infrastructure. The newly energized transmission lines are expected to strengthen the national power grid, increase electricity transmission capacity, and ensure a more reliable power supply for consumers across the region.
According to MEPCO officials, both Noorpur Pakpattan Rail Transmission Line I and Transmission Line II became operational on July 1, 2026. Each transmission line stretches approximately 27 kilometers and is connected to the 500kV Yousafwala Transmission Line. The combined cost of the two projects reached Rs 815 million, reflecting MEPCO’s continued investment in expanding and modernizing Pakistan’s power transmission network.
The project was completed under the supervision of MEPCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid and Chief Engineer Development PMU Zahid Akhtar. Along with constructing the transmission lines, engineers also installed the required line bays and completed the interfacing work with the 500kV Yousafwala Noorpur Transmission Line. This work was carried out jointly by the Grid System Construction (GSC) and Grid System Operation (GSO) departments.
Speaking about the project’s importance, Additional Chief Engineer GSC Syed Muhammad Mubashar Rizvi said the new transmission lines would significantly improve the stability and efficiency of the national electricity network. He explained that the project would enhance electricity transmission capacity, reduce system constraints, and support the country’s growing energy requirements.
He further noted that stronger transmission infrastructure would improve the reliability of electricity distribution between connected grid stations, helping provide a more stable and uninterrupted power supply to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers. The upgraded network will also create opportunities for future expansion and improve the overall quality of electricity transmission across southern Punjab.
The successful completion of the MEPCO transmission project demonstrates the company’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s energy infrastructure. With increased transmission capacity and improved system reliability, the project is expected to play an important role in supporting economic development while meeting future electricity demand across the region.
