A tragic bus accident in Balochistan claimed the lives of at least 39 passengers after a bus plunged into a deep ravine in the Dana Sar area of Sherani district, Zhob, on Friday.
According to district authorities, the passenger bus was traveling through a dangerous mountainous route when the accident occurred. Deputy Commissioner Zhob, Hazrat Wali Kakar, confirmed that at least 39 people lost their lives, while 20 others sustained injuries. Rescue officials said the victims included women and children, making the incident even more heartbreaking.
Emergency teams reached the spot immediately after receiving the alert and started rescue operations. The injured passengers were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are said to be in critical condition.
Initial investigations suggest the accident happened because of brake failure while the bus was crossing a sharp turn. The driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to fall into the ravine. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
This incident once again highlights the growing concerns over road safety in Balochistan, especially on dangerous highways where accidents are frequent. Poor road conditions, reckless driving, and mechanical failures continue to put passengers’ lives at risk.
Earlier this year, another deadly collision near Yakmach in Dalbandin killed seven people, including women and children.
To reduce such incidents, the Balochistan Transport Department has recently made it mandatory to install tracking systems in long-route passenger buses. These trackers will allow authorities to monitor speed in real time and issue alerts in case of overspeeding.
Officials say buses without valid tracker certificates will not be given route permits. Strict action will also be taken against reckless drivers to improve passenger safety on national highways.
