Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed serious concerns over the Afghan Taliban regime’s stance regarding the banned Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), saying there is no visible change on the ground despite reports suggesting otherwise. He cautioned against trusting what he described as “mixed signals” coming from Afghanistan’s interim rulers regarding cross border terrorism.

Speaking during a television interview, Asif addressed media reports claiming that Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada had instructed TTP militants to stop attacks inside Pakistan. However, the minister said such claims remain unverified in practical terms and that Pakistan has not witnessed any meaningful action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory.

The defence minister stressed that any genuine policy shift should be announced directly and followed by concrete measures. According to him, Pakistan continues to face security challenges linked to terrorist groups that allegedly find support and shelter across the border. He urged the Afghan leadership to take decisive action and permanently end any backing for the TTP.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries. Despite multiple rounds of negotiations and efforts to improve relations, progress has remained limited. Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil Haq earlier this year following renewed border security concerns and incidents along the frontier.

Separately, Asif also responded to comments made by India’s army chief regarding future military readiness. The minister said that Pakistan remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty against any external threat. He stated that the country’s armed forces are capable of responding effectively to any future aggression.

Asif further alleged that India is attempting to use Afghanistan as part of a broader strategy against Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan seeks regional peace and stability but remains committed to protecting its national interests and security.

The minister concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s demand for stronger action against terrorism and greater regional cooperation to ensure lasting peace and security across South Asia.
