A tragic mass shooting near Johannesburg, South Africa, has left 12 people dead after armed attackers stormed an informal settlement late Tuesday night. According to South African police, the incident occurred in the Jumpers settlement, an impoverished community located close to an abandoned gold mining area.
Authorities reported that around 10 armed suspects arrived in a vehicle before entering the settlement through different access points. The attackers then moved across the area, opening fire on residents at multiple locations before escaping in the same vehicle. The coordinated nature of the assault has shocked local communities and intensified concerns over rising violent crime in the country.
Police confirmed that 11 victims died at the scene, including eight men and three women, while another victim later succumbed to injuries at a hospital. Emergency services and forensic teams quickly arrived at the location to begin investigations and collect evidence.
