Israel has intensified its military operations in southern Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. Israeli forces recently captured the historic Beaufort Castle, a strategic hilltop fortress overlooking large parts of southern Lebanon, and raised the Israeli flag over the site.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz described the move as a symbolic and strategic achievement, noting that Israeli troops had returned to the location 44 years after the famous Battle of Beaufort. According to Israeli officials, the military has expanded its operations beyond the Litani River and secured key positions aimed at protecting communities in northern Israel.
As military activity increased, the Israeli army issued evacuation warnings to civilians across a large area of southern Lebanon. Residents were urged to leave locations where Hezbollah fighters, facilities, or military equipment were believed to be present. Israeli authorities stated that these measures were necessary to support ongoing operations against the Iran backed armed group.
Meanwhile, reports from Lebanon indicated that airstrikes targeted several towns and villages in the south, including areas near the city of Tyre. Local authorities reported damage to infrastructure and raised concerns about the humanitarian impact of the expanding conflict.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam strongly criticized Israel’s actions, accusing it of pursuing a scorched earth policy that has damaged communities and displaced civilians. He called for an immediate end to hostilities and stressed the need for diplomatic solutions to prevent further suffering.
Efforts to ease tensions continue through international mediation. Military representatives from Israel and Lebanon recently participated in security discussions in Washington, with additional talks expected in the coming days. However, uncertainty remains over whether negotiations can successfully reduce violence.
The conflict has continued despite a ceasefire agreement announced earlier this year. Both Israel and Hezbollah regularly accuse each other of violating the truce, while cross border attacks and military operations persist. As fighting continues, concerns are growing about regional stability and the humanitarian consequences of the escalating conflict.
