In preparation for the potential second round of US-Iran talks, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued an updated traffic plan for the federal capital. As part of the plan, the Red Zone and extended Red Zone will be completely closed, and traffic will be suspended on Islamabad Expressway from Korral to Zero Point.
The plan also includes restrictions on traffic on the Srinagar Highway, with potential stoppages at different times due to ongoing security measures.
The diplomatic activity follows reports from Iranian state media that Deputy Foreign Minister Araghchi will embark on a tri-nation tour, including visits to Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow. The discussions are focused on addressing regional developments and the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
Additionally, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Saturday for a new round of talks aimed at ending the war. The White House confirmed that the special envoys will be engaging with Iranian representatives during their visit.
In anticipation of the talks, the ICT Police have announced that heavy traffic will be banned from entering Islamabad, and transporters have been urged to avoid traveling toward the capital. The public has been given alternative routes to navigate the city.
For residents of G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7, alternative travel routes via Margalla Road and 9th Avenue are advised. Traffic from Faisal Avenue toward Zero Point will be diverted to 9th Avenue. If there is closure between Zero Point and Korral Chowk, commuters can use Srinagar Highway, Stadium Road, and Murree Road to reach Korral.
Citizens traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad are advised to use Colonel Sher Khan Road or 9th Avenue, while heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted via Taxila Motorway.
This updated traffic plan will be enforced starting Saturday, and residents are urged to cooperate with the traffic police and follow alternate routes.
