Fresh tensions between Iran and the United States are increasing fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that any attack on its oil tankers would trigger strong retaliation against American sites in the region. The warning came after reported US strikes on two Iranian vessels in the Gulf of Oman, further damaging already fragile diplomatic efforts.

Iranian officials claimed that any military action against their commercial ships would lead to a “heavy attack” on US military centres and vessels operating in the Middle East. The statement raised concerns about security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

US President Donald Trump said he was still waiting for Tehran’s response to Washington’s latest proposal aimed at securing a peace agreement and reducing tensions. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi questioned America’s seriousness regarding diplomacy, accusing US forces of escalating military pressure in the Gulf region.

The crisis has already affected global energy markets. Iran’s temporary restrictions near the Strait of Hormuz previously caused oil prices to rise sharply, while fears of supply disruptions continue to worry international markets. Satellite images also revealed an apparent oil slick near Iran’s key export hub on Kharg Island, although the exact cause remains unclear.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are continuing behind the scenes. Qatar and Pakistan are reportedly playing an important role in trying to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran. Senior US officials recently held meetings with Qatari leaders to discuss regional stability and possible pathways toward a lasting agreement.

At the same time, violence has intensified on the Lebanon front, where clashes between Israel and the Iran backed Hezbollah group continue despite an earlier ceasefire. The growing instability across the region has increased concerns about the possibility of a broader Middle East conflict involving multiple countries and armed groups.
