A group of 22 Iranian sailors has arrived in Karachi, Pakistan, after being rescued from the vessel Lenore/Davina, which was recently stopped by US authorities. The development was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday.
According to Dar, Pakistan is working closely with Iranian officials to complete the repatriation process and ensure the sailors return home safely. He said all arrangements are being finalized in coordination with the Iranian mission in Pakistan.
Dar also shared that Pakistan stayed in close contact with both US and Iranian authorities throughout the process. This cooperation helped guarantee the safe transfer of the crew members from the intercepted vessel to Karachi.
This marks the fourth batch of Iranian nationals whose return has been facilitated by Pakistan in the last two months. With this latest group, Pakistan has now assisted in the repatriation of more than 70 Iranian citizens.
The move comes shortly after an interim peace agreement between Iran and the United States was signed in Switzerland. The agreement was supported by mediation efforts from Pakistan and Qatar. The deal aims to restore diplomatic communication and prepare for technical talks expected next week.
Iran’s official news agency confirmed that the sailors have been handed over to Iranian diplomats in Karachi. The crew is expected to return to Iran within the next few days.
Earlier this month, Pakistan also helped repatriate eight Iranian fishermen who were rescued by a British vessel after their boat encountered trouble at sea.
The continued cooperation highlights Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in regional humanitarian efforts. Officials have praised the smooth handling of the operation and emphasized the importance of international coordination in ensuring the safety of stranded nationals.
