An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta has sentenced Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) chief organiser Dr Mahrang Baloch and fellow activist Sibghatullah to life imprisonment in connection with the death of a security official during a protest in Gwadar.
According to court proceedings, both leaders were convicted in a case related to the killing of security personnel Shabbir Baloch, who lost his life while performing official duties during a protest demonstration. The verdict comes after nearly two years of legal proceedings and investigations.
Dr Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah have remained in custody for the past two years while facing several charges, including terrorism, murder, attempted murder, incitement to violence, and rebellion against the state. Authorities also accused them of creating public disorder, encouraging racial hatred, and causing damage to public property.
Following the court’s decision, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti welcomed the verdict and described it as a significant step toward ensuring justice. He stated that the ruling demonstrates the supremacy of law and sends a clear message that individuals involved in violence and unlawful activities will be held accountable.
The chief minister paid tribute to Shabbir Baloch, saying that his sacrifice would always be remembered and that the government stands with his family during this difficult time. He emphasized that justice for the slain security official was a responsibility of the state.
Bugti further stated that no individual or group would be allowed to target state institutions or security personnel under the cover of peaceful protest. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Balochistan.
The provincial government has also vowed to continue operations against terrorists, their facilitators, and supporters. Officials maintain that efforts to eliminate violence and restore lasting peace in the province will continue until all threats to public security are addressed.
