Tensions in the Middle East maritime routes have intensified after Iranian explosive boats reportedly attacked multiple ships in the Gulf region. The incidents have raised serious concerns about global shipping security and oil supply routes, especially around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to maritime authorities and security firms, two fuel tankers operating near Iraqi waters were targeted by explosive laden boats late Wednesday. The vessels identified as Safesea Vishnu and Zefyros had recently loaded fuel cargo in Iraq before the attacks occurred. The strikes reportedly set parts of the ships on fire and resulted in one confirmed crew fatality. Rescue teams were seen searching the surrounding waters for missing seafarers, as concerns remain about additional casualties.

Security officials reported that the Safesea Vishnu, which sails under the Marshall Islands flag, is operated by Safesea Transport Group based in the United States. The other vessel Zefyros is believed to operate under a Malta flag with connections to a major Greek shipping family group. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and the identities of all affected crew members.

The attacks were not limited to Iraqi waters. Earlier in the day a Thai flagged bulk carrier named Mayuree Naree was struck by two unidentified projectiles while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz. The explosion caused a serious engine room fire, leaving three crew members missing who are believed to be trapped inside the damaged area. The remaining 20 crew members were successfully evacuated and taken to safety in Oman.

Additional incidents were reported involving other commercial vessels in nearby Gulf waters. The container ship ONE Majesty, owned by a Japanese shipping company, sustained minor structural damage after being struck by a projectile while anchored near the United Arab Emirates coastline. Another bulk carrier named Star Gwyneth was also hit, damaging part of its hull though no injuries were reported among the crew.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, carrying nearly 20 percent of global oil shipments. Rising tensions and repeated attacks have already caused shipping disruptions and a sharp increase in global oil prices, creating new concerns for international trade and energy markets.
