The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has officially announced the results for 21 out of 24 constituencies following the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan general elections, confirming the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as the largest political force in the region.

According to the notification issued by the ECGB, the party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari secured nine seats, placing it ahead of its political rivals. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won six seats, while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) emerged with four seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) secured one seat, and an independent candidate also claimed victory in one constituency.

The election commission stated that the official results for GBA-9 Skardu-3, GBA-15 Diamer-1, and GBA-17 Diamer-3 are still pending and will be announced after the completion of necessary procedures. Notifications for the remaining constituencies have already been issued.

Among the successful candidates, PPP’s Amjad Hussain won from GBA-1 Gilgit-1, while PML-N’s Hafeezur Rehman secured victory in GBA-2 Gilgit-2. Independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas was declared successful in GBA-3 Gilgit-3. PPP candidates also performed strongly in Nagar, Hunza, Skardu, and Ghizer, contributing significantly to the party’s overall tally.

The elections were held on June 7, 2026, but the announcement of final results was delayed due to complaints from several political parties regarding alleged irregularities and concerns over the vote-counting process. In response, election authorities ordered partial re-polling at selected polling stations in five constituencies instead of canceling results for entire electoral districts.

Political parties, including PPP, PTI, and JUI-F, had raised objections over the transparency of the electoral process. The ECGB maintained that targeted re-polling was conducted to address concerns while ensuring the completion of the democratic process. With PPP emerging as the largest party in the notified results, attention is now focused on the remaining constituencies and the eventual formation of the next Gilgit-Baltistan government.
