Morocco secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Scotland in their FIFA World Cup Group C encounter thanks to an early goal from Ismael Saibari, strengthening their position in the race for a place in the knockout rounds.

The match got off to a dream start for Morocco as Saibari found the net just two minutes after kickoff. The midfielder continued his impressive World Cup form by scoring his second goal of the tournament, giving the Atlas Lions an advantage they would successfully defend for the remainder of the match.

The move began with an excellent pass from Brahim Diaz, who spotted Saibari making a run down the right side. Saibari took full advantage of the space available, drove into the penalty area, and calmly lifted the ball over Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn to score the fastest goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far.

Morocco dominated possession throughout much of the first half, controlling the tempo and creating several opportunities to increase their lead. The Atlas Lions looked confident and organized as they aimed to build on their memorable run to the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup.

Scotland struggled to create meaningful chances during the opening stages but improved after halftime. Despite increasing pressure and spending more time in attacking areas, the Scottish side failed to register a single shot on target.

Morocco came close to extending their lead in the second half when Saibari nearly grabbed his second goal of the match. However, a crucial block from Jack Hendry and the crossbar denied the midfielder. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn also made important saves to keep Scotland in the contest.

As the match progressed, Scotland pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Efforts from Ryan Christie and Scott McTominay failed to trouble the Moroccan defense, which remained disciplined and compact until the final whistle.

The victory moves Morocco to four points in Group C and puts them in a strong position ahead of their final group match against Haiti. Scotland remain in contention but now face a difficult challenge against Brazil in their last group-stage fixture.
