Imran sisters detained under the Maintenance of Public Order law in Lahore as authorities move against the family of the PTI founder.
On Monday, Lahore’s deputy commissioner issued detention orders for Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, the sisters of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan. The orders came under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order, 1960, following a police recommendation. Both women have been held for 30 days and shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail.
The action followed the detention of their sister Aleema Khan a day earlier. Aleema was taken into custody while heading to a gym in Lahore and later transferred to the same jail. Sources initially reported that her sons, Shahrez Khan and Sher Shah, were also briefly held, but lawyer Rana Mudassir confirmed they were released after a short detention.
According to party aides, Noreen and Uzma were moved to Kot Lakhpat around 2 a.m. The timing of these detentions has drawn attention because they come just days before PTI’s planned nationwide protests and a long march on Islamabad scheduled for September 27. The party is demanding the release of Imran Khan and the supremacy of the Constitution.
When Aleema was first taken, Noreen told media that she had learned her sister was being shifted to Kot Lakhpat. She questioned why women from the family were being targeted, saying the authorities appeared overly concerned. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan strongly condemned the arrests. He described Aleema’s detention as a step that could worsen the situation and stressed that the party’s planned march would remain peaceful and political. Gohar reiterated that PTI seeks only constitutional and political demands through non-violent means and has no interest in confrontation.
The three sisters are now held in the same facility while Imran Khan remains in Adiala jail. Party workers and supporters view the successive detentions as an attempt to pressure the family ahead of the upcoming protests. Officials have not publicly detailed the specific reasons beyond the MPO provisions, which allow preventive detention to maintain public order.
These developments have intensified political tensions in Punjab and across the country as PTI prepares for its next phase of street mobilisation.
