Pakistan’s main gas utilities have introduced a new schedule to manage limited supplies during the colder months. The Sui Southern Gas Company has confirmed that domestic users will get gas only during three fixed periods each day. These slots are from 6:30am to 9am, 12pm to 2:30pm, and 6pm to 9pm. The company says this step follows federal government directions and aims to protect household cooking needs when demand rises.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has applied the same timings across Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. From Wednesday onward, homes in these areas will also receive gas only in the three cooking windows. Officials explained that lower LNG availability combined with higher winter demand forced the load management plan. Priority remains with domestic consumers so families can prepare meals without major disruption.
The pressure on the system has already affected other sectors. SNGPL has cut gas to the CNG sector from 50 million cubic feet per day to 35 million cubic feet per day and plans to stop supplies completely in the coming days. Cement plants have moved to coal, while many industrial users on the distribution network face reduced volumes. Industries linked directly to the transmission network still get around 200 million cubic feet per day, though further cuts remain possible. The power sector receives about 140 million cubic feet per day, and the fertiliser industry gets roughly 53 million cubic feet per day.
Both companies stress that the current arrangement is temporary and designed to keep essential household needs covered. Domestic users are advised to plan cooking within the announced hours. The measures reflect the ongoing challenge of balancing limited gas resources against rising seasonal demand across the country. Citizens can expect continued updates as winter progresses and supply conditions change.
