Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been handed a one match suspension following an incident during the IPL 2026 Final, despite his team’s historic championship victory. The Australian power hitter will now miss RCB’s opening game of the next Indian Premier League season after breaching the tournament’s Code of Conduct.
The incident took place during RCB’s final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. During the 10th over of Gujarat’s innings, a catch by Jordan Cox off the bowling of Washington Sundar was reviewed by the officials and eventually ruled out. The decision frustrated David, who reacted angrily on the field.
According to the IPL’s disciplinary report, David threw an ice bag in the direction of on field umpire Nitin Menon. The action was deemed a violation of Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which prohibits players from throwing cricket equipment or any object near players, match officials, umpires, or other individuals in an inappropriate or dangerous manner.
The Australian batter admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. What made the situation more serious was that it marked David’s third disciplinary breach of the season. With the addition of new demerit points, his total reached five, automatically triggering a suspension under IPL regulations.
As a result, David will be unavailable for RCB’s first match of IPL 2027, creating an early setback for the defending champions. While the suspension is a disappointment for both player and franchise, the team still ended the season on a memorable note.
RCB defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final to successfully defend their title. The achievement placed them among an elite group of franchises to win consecutive IPL championships. Only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians had previously accomplished the feat.
While the celebration of another championship continues among RCB supporters, Tim David’s suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism during high pressure matches.
