Sindh High Court has ordered police to provide full protection to a family that faced a violent attack in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority area. The court issued the directive on Tuesday while hearing a petition filed by the victim woman, Noor ul Ain, and her brother. They have challenged an FIR registered against them after the incident in Khayaban-e-Bukhari.
The court also issued notices to the concerned parties and adjourned the hearing until September 21. Respondents have been directed to submit their written replies within the given time. The family approached the court seeking quashing of the FIR, claiming they were the actual victims of the assault.
CCTV footage from the apartment building has gone viral and shows a woman walking down the stairs with uniformed police officers while holding a dumbbell. She is seen repeatedly striking Noor who was standing outside a flat. When Noor tried to resist, the police officers restrained her and her companion instead of stopping the attacker. A person in plain clothes was also seen taking an officer’s official weapon and using it to smash a CCTV camera.
Separately, a sessions court has taken up an application seeking registration of a proper case against the attackers. The court has issued notices to police officials and fixed the next hearing for September 2. The affected family has already recorded its detailed statement before the DIG South. DIG South Asad Raza confirmed that the matter is being investigated transparently and the inquiry will be conducted purely on merit.
Karachi Police chief Azad Khan has also taken serious notice of the incident after watching the viral video. He has sought a complete report regarding the alleged misconduct of the police officers visible in the footage and directed relevant authorities to submit a full account of their conduct.
The case has drawn public attention because of the clear video evidence and the way police appeared to act during the scuffle. The Sindh High Court order for police protection aims to ensure the safety of the family while legal proceedings continue. Authorities are expected to complete a fair investigation so that justice is delivered without any influence or delay.
