PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has firmly rejected claims that Imran Khan expressed any satisfaction over the suspension of his party’s government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Gohar described such reports as completely false and clarified that the PTI founder never used those words.
Questions had arisen about Imran’s views on the party, its ongoing movement, and the situation in KP after lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar met the incarcerated leader. Gohar said Safdar informed him that Imran was aware of the emergency and governor’s rule imposed in the province, yet little political discussion took place during the meeting. Safdar returned without any major political message from the former prime minister.
The meeting between Safdar, Imran Khan, and Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail lasted around 40 minutes. It focused mainly on their health, living conditions, and pending legal matters. This was the first such interaction since April 8 after a long period of restricted access. Gohar welcomed the meeting and noted that prolonged restrictions on access to Imran had contributed to rising political tensions. He believes the situation might not have reached the stage of emergency and governor’s rule in KP if regular political meetings had been allowed earlier.
The PTI chairman shared that the party made repeated efforts to arrange meetings for himself and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. When political access remained blocked, they pursued the option of Safdar meeting the founder instead.
Addressing speculation about internal divisions, Gohar firmly stated there is no forward bloc in KP. All PTI lawmakers in the province continue to stand with Imran Khan. Any future decision on such matters would come only from the party founder if needed. He also described the disappearance of KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the provincial assembly speaker as beyond comprehension. Their recovery case has been referred to a larger bench of the Peshawar High Court.
Gohar called for an overall reduction in political tensions, stressing that all forces must de-escalate for the sake of the country and democracy. He repeated the demand for proper medical treatment for Imran Khan and access for his personal doctors. No discussion took place about shifting the PTI founder to Bani Gala or any prison in Islamabad.
