The Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for 20% of the world’s oil supply, has been the center of a severe global energy crisis. While the blockade remains technically in place, the suspension of escorted transits signals a de-escalation in tensions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was quick to praise the decision, expressing his sincere gratitude for President Trump’s timely announcement. The Prime Minister credited the collaborative efforts of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, specifically mentioning Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for their role in mediating this sensitive situation. Pakistan has positioned itself as a central intermediary, hosting high-level talks in Islamabad to facilitate a peaceful resolution through diplomatic dialogue.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Operation Epic Fury has achieved its primary military objectives, the US administration remains vigilant. The goal is to ensure regional stability while preventing nuclear proliferation. As Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi travels to Beijing for further discussions, the international community remains hopeful. The next few weeks will be critical in determining if this momentum leads to a durable and lasting peace in the region.
