Nishtar Hospital has significantly strengthened its renal care services after receiving eight new dialysis machines from the North America Nishtar Alumni (NANA), an organization of former Nishtar Medical College graduates currently based in the United States. The donation marks an important step toward improving healthcare facilities and expanding free dialysis services for kidney patients across South Punjab.
The newly donated equipment was officially inaugurated at the hospital by patients undergoing dialysis treatment. Out of the eight machines, four have been installed in the existing dialysis unit, while the remaining four have been placed in the newly established dialysis unit in Ward 7A. This expansion will help the hospital provide faster and more efficient treatment to patients suffering from chronic kidney disease.
In addition to the dialysis machines, NANA also donated two Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plants, an ultrasound machine, and an ECG machine. These advanced medical devices will improve the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and ensure safe and reliable dialysis procedures for patients.
With the latest addition, Nishtar Hospital now operates a total of 34 dialysis machines. The hospital currently serves around 250 registered renal patients and performs more than 3,000 dialysis sessions every month, all provided free of cost. The increased capacity is expected to reduce waiting times while allowing the hospital to accommodate the growing number of patients seeking life saving treatment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Nishtar Medical University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani praised the healthcare initiatives introduced under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. She stated that the provincial government remains committed to ensuring patients receive safe, free, and uninterrupted dialysis services, and added that the latest expansion would improve access to quality healthcare throughout the region.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan also thanked NANA for its generous contribution. He said the additional equipment would strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide round the clock dialysis services, improve patient care, and support the increasing healthcare needs of communities across South Punjab.
