A serious road accident in Karachi’s DHA Phase 6 left 11 people injured after a speeding car lost control and rammed into pedestrians and a tent set up for a religious gathering near Saba Avenue on Sunday night.
According to police officials, the vehicle was travelling at a high speed when it suddenly veered off the road, striking several people walking nearby before crashing into a canopy erected outside an imambargah. The impact caused panic in the area as people rushed to help those trapped and injured.
Initial reports suggested that five people had sustained injuries, but the number later increased to 11 victims as more injured individuals were shifted to hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that all the injured received immediate assistance, while some remain under observation.
SSP South Mehzor Ali stated that the driver responsible for the accident, along with two other individuals present in the vehicle, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. The police also impounded the vehicle and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
Security camera footage that surfaced online captured the terrifying moments of the accident. The video, recorded at approximately 9:26 pm, shows the vehicle entering the road at considerable speed before the driver apparently lost control. Within seconds, the car ploughed through pedestrians and into the gathering tent, forcing bystanders to run for safety.
The incident drew the attention of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who immediately sought a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Police. During the briefing, officials informed him that a possible brake failure may have contributed to the accident, although investigators are still examining whether mechanical issues or driver negligence played a role.
The chief minister directed authorities to ensure that the vehicle remains in police custody, the driver is dealt with according to the law, and a comprehensive inquiry report is submitted. He also expressed sympathy for those injured and prayed for their speedy recovery as investigations continue into the unfortunate incident.
