Jemima Goldsmith has publicly called on the British government to end its silence over the treatment of her former husband Imran Khan. In a strongly worded post on X, she directly addressed the UK Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, asking how much longer Britain would stay quiet.
The mother of Imran Khan’s two sons wrote that the former prime minister has spent three years facing what she described as harsh penalties from political opponents. She claimed he has lived through prolonged solitary confinement and that his family has been denied any contact with him for nearly ten months. According to Jemima Goldsmith, he has also been kept away from books, lawyers and proper medical care.
She pointed to international human rights standards, including the United Nations Nelson Mandela Rules, which ban solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days and treat such treatment as a form of torture. Imran Khan, she said, has faced this situation for three full years rather than a short period.
Jemima Goldsmith noted that Pakistan’s Supreme Court recently ordered comprehensive medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice weekly calls with his sons. Yet those directions are not being followed, turning the issue into a human rights emergency rather than a purely domestic political matter.
She reminded UK leaders of Imran Khan’s long and deep connection with Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained the university cricket team and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with the country stretches back more than half a century. She also highlighted his internationally recognised charity work, including the creation of a free cancer hospital and a university in Pakistan.
Jemima Goldsmith said she has appealed to the British government several times before. She now urges Britain to speak out clearly and publicly. She wants the UK to demand that Pakistan follow its own Supreme Court orders, restore medical access, allow family contact, end the long isolation and protect basic human rights.
The statement has once again drawn international attention to the ongoing concerns raised by Imran Khan’s family and supporters about his conditions in custody.
