Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major diplomatic achievement after successfully mediating a historic peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The agreement, officially named the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz as the mediator.
According to official details, the agreement came into effect immediately after signing. As part of the first phase, Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, while the United States committed to lifting its naval blockade without delay. The move is expected to ease tensions in the region and stabilize international trade routes that are crucial for global energy supplies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz praised both leaders for choosing diplomacy over conflict and described the agreement as a significant step toward regional peace. He also acknowledged the efforts of senior negotiators from both countries who worked tirelessly to finalize the deal.
The premier extended special appreciation to Field Marshal Asim Munir, stating that his dedication and behind the scenes efforts played a critical role in achieving the diplomatic breakthrough. He further recognized the support provided by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt, whose engagement helped facilitate constructive dialogue between the two sides.
The agreement aims to formally end months of conflict that had disrupted regional stability and impacted global markets. In addition to restoring maritime access, the United States is expected to waive key oil sanctions on Iran. The deal also outlines future cooperation on resolving issues related to Iran’s nuclear program.
Officials hope the Islamabad MoU will create a foundation for long term peace, stronger diplomatic relations, and greater economic stability across the Middle East. The agreement is already being viewed as one of the most significant diplomatic developments of the year.
