Imran Khan returned to Adiala jail after medical examination at Shifa Hospital

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf founder Imran Khan has been shifted back to Adiala jail after a medical check up at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. Doctors examined him and found it safe for the former prime minister to remain in prison custody.

According to reports, Imran Khan was taken from Adiala jail Gate Number 1 under tight security and escorted by police to the hospital. A six member team of specialist doctors carried out the examination. After reviewing his condition, the medical team concluded that he could continue staying in jail without any immediate health risk.

Jail sources confirmed that the PTI founder was then moved back to his cell at Adiala jail. A PTI spokesperson told media that Imran Khan spent only a few hours overnight at the hospital before returning to prison.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered his transfer to a medical facility within two days after reviewing his health situation. The government later filed a review petition against the court order, but the Supreme Court registrar returned the petition after raising objections.

Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the hospital with senior officers to check security arrangements. A large police contingent was deployed outside Shifa International Hospital before the arrival of Imran Khan. Special arrangements were made inside the hospital for his examination and possible admission.

Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said it is still early to talk about shifting Imran Khan to his Bani Gala residence. He noted that any building can be declared a sub jail if medical experts decide that returning him to prison would harm his health.

Zulfi Bukhari, a close aide of the former premier, stated that Imran Khan would not confront the army or Field Marshal Asim Munir if released. He described the Supreme Court order as a new ray of hope and said the party would follow court instructions fully.

Imran Khan, who is 73 years old, has been in prison since August 2023. He and his party maintain that the cases against him are politically motivated. Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has also mentioned the possibility of sending him abroad for medical treatment in the future.

The return of Imran Khan to Adiala jail after the hospital visit marks the latest development in his ongoing legal and health related proceedings.
