The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its crackdown on food safety violations across the Multan Division, taking strict action against businesses that failed to meet hygiene and quality standards. The inspection campaign was launched on the instructions of Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza to ensure the availability of safe and healthy food for the public.
During the large-scale operation, food safety teams inspected soda water plants, snack manufacturing units, bakeries, restaurants, milk shops, and several other food outlets. Authorities disposed of 160 litres of substandard soda water along with 20 kilograms of expired and prohibited food ingredients that posed a potential health risk to consumers. Multiple businesses were also fined for violating food safety regulations.
In Multan, a papad manufacturing unit located near the Kidney Centre on Muzaffargarh Road received a Rs40,000 fine for using unfiltered water and failing to properly cover food ingredients. Two bakeries in Allah Akbar Colony and Bahadurpur, Jalalpur Pirwala were each fined Rs20,000 due to poor sanitation, unsafe water usage, improper food storage, and unhygienic production conditions, including the presence of birds inside the preparation area.
A milk shop at Bahawalpur Bypass Chowk was also fined Rs20,000 after laboratory testing confirmed that the milk failed to meet the required quality standards. Meanwhile, a snacks production unit in Allah Wasaya Chowk was fined Rs25,000 for poor cleanliness and improper flour storage. Another bakery production facility in Shah Town Phase I received a Rs35,000 fine for unhygienic working conditions, poorly maintained machinery, and failing to provide a water quality analysis report.
In Khanewal, three soda water plants were collectively fined Rs34,000 for preparing beverages with substandard and prohibited ingredients. A bakery and a grinding unit were also penalized for storing expired food items, using broken eggs, and maintaining unsanitary food storage conditions.
Similarly, in Vehari, two soda water plants were fined Rs15,000 each for using unauthorized ingredients in beverage production. The Punjab Food Authority reaffirmed its commitment to regular inspections and strict enforcement to protect public health and ensure food businesses comply with hygiene regulations.
