Australia women’s national cricket team secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over West Indies women’s national cricket team to book their place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. The first semi-final was played at The Oval, where Australia once again showed why they remain one of the strongest teams in women’s cricket.
After winning the toss, Australian captain Sophie Molineux chose to bowl first, and the decision proved highly effective. Australia’s disciplined bowling attack restricted West Indies to 125/7 in 20 overs despite a late attacking innings from Deandra Dottin.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews was the top scorer with 30 runs off 28 balls, while Shemaine Campbelle added 22 runs to stabilize the innings. Dottin, playing despite an injury concern, gave her side a much-needed late boost with a quick 26 off 16 balls, hitting four boundaries.
Australia’s bowling unit remained sharp throughout the innings. Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, and Molineux each picked up two wickets, while Annabel Sutherland claimed one.
Chasing a modest target of 126, Australia made the run chase look easy. Star batter Beth Mooney led from the front with an unbeaten 61 off 36 balls, smashing eight fours. She built a match-winning partnership with Gardner, who remained unbeaten on 35 runs.
With this impressive win, six-time champions Australia now advance to the final, where they will face either South Africa women’s national cricket team or England women’s national cricket team at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
