Arshad Nadeem has been included in the official entry list for the men’s javelin throw event at the Lausanne Diamond League. The prestigious competition is set to take place on August 21 in Switzerland.
Event organisers released the entry list earlier today. The Pakistani Olympic gold medalist will compete against some of the strongest names in the sport. His biggest challenge is expected to come from Indian rival Neeraj Chopra. Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and recently crowned Commonwealth Games gold medalist Rumesh Pathirage of Sri Lanka are also in the field. Pathirage currently holds the world lead this season.
The full lineup includes several other top performers. Germany’s Thomas Röhler and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago will also take part. Additional athletes named are Curtis Thompson of the USA, Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia, Julian Weber of Germany and Simon Wieland of Switzerland. Arshad Nadeem enters the event after a disappointing performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 29-year-old failed to defend his gold medal and finished ninth in the 12-man final. In the 2022 edition of the Games he had won gold with a massive throw of 90.18 metres. This time he started his defence with a foul. His second attempt of 77.41 metres placed him on the leaderboard but he could not improve. A third throw of only 75.39 metres left him in ninth position and ended his medal hopes.

His presence in Lausanne alongside world-class rivals has generated strong interest among athletics fans.
