President Donald Trump has extended a policy requiring a $100,000 payment for certain new H-1B Visa applications for another year, keeping the controversial immigration measure in place through September 2027. The White House announced the extension on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The H-1B program allows US employers to hire skilled foreign professionals for jobs requiring specialized knowledge. The program is widely used by technology companies and has been particularly important for recruiting workers from countries such as India and China.
/The $100,000 payment was first introduced through a presidential proclamation in September 2025. Under the renewed order, certain H-1B workers who are outside the United States and seeking entry based on covered petitions would generally require the payment, unless an exception applies. The restriction is scheduled to remain in effect until September 21, 2027, unless extended again or otherwise changed.
The policy is facing legal challenges. A federal judge previously ruled against the administration’s higher fee, and the matter is being reviewed by a Boston-based federal appeals court.
