RAWALPINDI: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi during her official visit to Pakistan. The meeting focused on regional security, bilateral relations, and strengthening defence cooperation between Pakistan and Canada.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), both leaders held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security challenges, and opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on global peace, regional stability, and the importance of working together to address common security threats. He emphasized that collaborative efforts and strong international partnerships are essential for maintaining lasting peace and tackling emerging security challenges.
Anita Anand appreciated Pakistan’s continued commitment to promoting peace and stability across the region. She also acknowledged the country’s significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, recognizing the role Pakistan has played in countering extremism and contributing to international security.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan Canada relations, particularly in the areas of defence, security cooperation, and diplomatic engagement. They agreed to continue expanding bilateral collaboration for the benefit of both nations.
The Canadian foreign minister arrived in Pakistan on her first official visit since assuming office at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Earlier in the day, she held talks with the deputy prime minister and addressed a joint press conference in Islamabad.
During the media briefing, Anita Anand announced more than $47 million in Canadian assistance for Pakistan. The funding will support security, development initiatives, and projects aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The visit highlights the growing partnership between Pakistan and Canada, with both governments expressing a shared commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations, promoting regional stability, and expanding cooperation in key sectors.
