The United States has officially declared an end to its offensive operations against Iran, though officials have issued a stern warning that military force remains a viable option. During a recent briefing, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that while the primary campaign has concluded, the US military is prepared to unleash a devastating response should any new threats emerge. The situation remains delicate as both nations navigate a fragile ceasefire that has been tested by recent maritime skirmishes and drone activity.
Secretary Rubio took a hard line against Tehran, accusing the Iranian government of holding the world’s economy hostage by threatening vital shipping lanes and deploying sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. To counter these “malign” activities, the United States and its Gulf allies have drafted a UN Security Council resolution. This proposed measure demands that Iran immediately cease all attacks, disclose the location of all underwater explosives, and abandon its attempts to charge illegal tolls for passage through the international waterway.
Despite the halt in active offensives, Pentagon officials and General Dan Caine emphasized that US Central Command remains on high alert. The US administration is balancing its desire for a diplomatic breakthrough with the necessity of maintaining regional stability. President Donald Trump has publicly urged Iran to “do the smart thing” and finalize a comprehensive deal, noting that while the US exercises restraint, it possesses overwhelming force if provocations continue.
The ongoing conflict has already placed significant strain on the global economy, causing fluctuations in energy costs and impacting international stock markets. European leaders have echoed Washington’s concerns, noting that disruptions in the Gulf region have direct consequences for global security. As mediation efforts continue, the international community is watching closely to see if Tehran will choose the path of dialogue or continue its current trajectory of maritime defiance.
