US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the latest Iran proposal for peace negotiations, saying he is not happy with what Tehran has offered so far. Despite a fragile ceasefire holding since early April, talks remain stalled as both sides continue to pressure each other.

Trump blamed the slow progress on deep divisions inside Iran’s leadership. He openly questioned whether to pursue a diplomatic deal or take stronger military action, but made it clear he prefers a peaceful resolution on humanitarian grounds. Iran, meanwhile, delivered its draft proposal through mediator Pakistan but firmly rejected any “imposed” peace terms.

The conflict, which began with surprise US and Israeli strikes in late February, has caused major economic damage. Iran continues to control the Strait of Hormuz, severely disrupting global oil flows, while the US maintains a counter-blockade. This stalemate has pushed oil prices significantly higher and created serious hardship for ordinary Iranians, many of whom now struggle with basic necessities.

Iran’s judiciary chief stated that his country has never avoided negotiations but will not accept forced conditions. At the same time, the US has put new demands on Iran’s nuclear program, including restrictions on enriched uranium from damaged sites.

Trump recently informed Congress that hostilities with Iran have officially “terminated,” even as the Pentagon prepares to withdraw thousands of troops from Germany. Washington has also approved major new arms deals for its Middle East allies, including a large Patriot missile system for Qatar.

On the ground, tensions persist in Lebanon where Israeli strikes continue against Iran-linked targets. The economic impact inside Iran is severe, with inflation soaring and many businesses struggling. Iran’s Supreme Leader has called for avoiding mass layoffs while preparing for long-term resistance.

Both sides appear stuck in a difficult waiting game. While Trump pushes for a better deal, Iran insists on fair terms. The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether diplomacy can succeed or if the region risks sliding back into open conflict.
