Cambridge International Education has confirmed that an AS Level Mathematics Paper 1 was leaked after being shared before the scheduled examination, creating serious concern among students, parents, and schools during the ongoing May-June exam session.
According to Cambridge, AS Level Mathematics Paper 12 (9709) was “shared prematurely” in violation of its examination regulations. The paper was taken in several regions, including Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan, and South Asia. The issue came to light after reports claimed the paper had surfaced hours before the exam in Pakistan.
Cambridge said it immediately began a detailed investigation to understand how the leak happened, how widely the paper was shared, and what steps should be taken regarding the compromised exam. The board stated that its main focus is to ensure that students are not unfairly affected by the incident.
The examination body also said senior and experienced professionals are reviewing the matter carefully. Their goal is to protect the integrity of the examination system while reducing unnecessary stress and disruption for students who are already appearing in exams.
Cambridge further assured students, schools, universities, and other institutions that it will work to maintain the reliability of awarded grades. The board said it understands the importance of trust in Cambridge results, especially because these grades are used for university admissions and academic progression.
The organisation also noted that such incidents are rare, but where there is evidence of malpractice, proper sanctions may be applied against involved centres or students. This means action could be taken if any school, exam centre, or individual is found responsible.
The paper leak has raised fresh questions about exam security and fairness under the Cambridge system. Many students and parents are now waiting anxiously for clarity on how the board will handle the situation.
Cambridge has asked schools and students to remain patient and said it will provide its next official update on May 7, 2026.
