Former prime minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has praised the federal government and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir for their significant role in mediating between the United States and Iran. Speaking at a high level meeting of the party’s parliamentary board for Gilgit Baltistan, Nawaz said Pakistan’s efforts have strengthened its global diplomatic standing.
He highlighted the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, calling their efforts commendable in facilitating dialogue between two major powers. According to Nawaz, Pakistan’s successful role in brokering a temporary US Iran ceasefire has brought international recognition and respect.
The ceasefire, which was reached earlier this month, came at a critical moment when tensions in the Middle East were escalating rapidly. Pakistan stepped in with urgent diplomatic engagement, convincing both sides to pause hostilities and give peaceful negotiations a chance. This move not only reduced immediate risks but also opened the door for direct talks between Washington and Tehran, something rarely seen in recent years.
Nawaz Sharif stated that such developments have elevated Pakistan’s image globally, showcasing its ability to act as a responsible and effective mediator. He expressed optimism that the upcoming second round of talks in Islamabad could lead to a more lasting and meaningful agreement.
During his address, Nawaz also shifted focus to domestic matters. He praised the Punjab government’s performance, urging other provinces to adopt similar strategies for development and governance. At the same time, he strongly criticized the PTI led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, raising concerns about the worsening law and order situation in the province.
He concluded by emphasizing that the PML-N has consistently delivered across sectors, including development projects in Gilgit Baltistan. According to him, the party remains committed to strengthening both Pakistan’s internal progress and its international diplomatic role.
