A high-level Pakistani delegation, led by Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, has arrived in Tehran as part of ongoing efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran. The visit signals Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in attempting to ease tensions and push toward a lasting peace agreement in the region.
According to official sources, the delegation includes senior leadership such as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and their visit comes at a crucial time when both Tehran and Washington are reportedly exchanging messages through Pakistani mediators. This development highlights Pakistan’s active involvement in facilitating communication between the two sides.
The visit follows a recent round of high-level talks in Islamabad, which lasted over 20 hours but failed to produce a final agreement. Key issues remain unresolved, including Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of US sanctions. Despite the challenges, Pakistan continues to push for diplomatic solutions and is preparing for another round of negotiations, which may take place soon.
Sources indicate that the upcoming talks could involve prominent figures from the US side, including Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, officials such as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are expected to participate.
The conflict between the US and Iran began earlier this year and escalated quickly, impacting regional stability. A temporary ceasefire was announced on April 8, but its extension remains uncertain as both sides have yet to reach consensus on critical matters.
Iranian officials have confirmed that multiple messages have already been exchanged through Pakistan, and further discussions are expected to focus on achieving a complete ceasefire and addressing economic concerns, including frozen assets and compensation.
Pakistan’s mediation efforts underline its strategic importance in global diplomacy and its commitment to promoting peace and stability in a volatile region.
