The upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup is set to reach new heights with a record prize pool of $8.8 million, reflecting the growing popularity and investment in women’s cricket. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the tournament winners will receive an impressive $2.3 million, while the runners up will earn $1.17 million.
The 12 team competition will take place in England and Wales starting June 12, with defending champions New Zealand aiming to retain their title after winning the previous edition. This year’s prize structure also rewards teams across all stages, as both losing semi finalists will receive $675,000 each, while every participating team is guaranteed a minimum payout of $248,000.
Although the prize pool is slightly lower compared to some recent ICC tournaments, it still marks a significant milestone for women’s cricket. For comparison, the 50 over Women’s World Cup held in India and Sri Lanka recently featured a $13.9 million prize pool, the highest in ICC history. Meanwhile, men’s tournaments have also seen substantial rewards, with the 2023 Men’s World Cup offering $10 million and the latest Men’s T20 World Cup providing $11.25 million.
The increased financial rewards highlight the rapid growth and global recognition of women’s cricket. ICC officials have emphasized that rising investments and improved opportunities are helping elevate the sport to new levels, attracting more audiences and inspiring future generations of players.
This development is seen as a positive step toward greater equality in cricket, as governing bodies continue to focus on expanding the reach and impact of women’s tournaments. With competitive teams, higher stakes, and global attention, the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup promises to be a landmark event in the evolution of the sport.
