The ongoing US Iran talks have not only shaped global diplomacy but have also sparked conversations within Pakistan about the need for internal political harmony. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged the government to pursue a “domestic ceasefire”, emphasizing that peace efforts should begin at home as well as abroad.
Speaking to the media, Gohar highlighted that while Pakistan is playing a significant role in mediating global conflicts, it must also focus on resolving its own political differences. He pointed out that the country cannot promote peace internationally while remaining divided internally. According to him, internal stability is directly linked to global stability, making it essential for political stakeholders to come together.
Gohar praised Pakistan’s leadership for facilitating the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which brought both nations to Islamabad for high level talks. These discussions, lasting over 20 hours, marked a historic diplomatic milestone, even though they ended without a final agreement. He acknowledged the contributions of all individuals involved in the process, calling it a positive step toward global peace.
The PTI leader reaffirmed his party’s stance, stating that they stand for the well being and unity of the country. He also mentioned that PTI had cancelled its planned public gathering in Rawalpindi to support the ongoing diplomatic efforts and avoid disruptions during such a sensitive time.
While addressing questions about potential negotiations with the government, Gohar clarified that no formal talks are currently underway. However, he expressed hope that dialogue between the opposition and the ruling alliance could begin in the near future, possibly within the next few weeks.
The broader Middle East conflict continues to have serious economic and political impacts worldwide, including on Pakistan. In this context, Gohar stressed that maintaining both external diplomacy and internal unity is crucial for ensuring long term stability and progress.
