Pakistan has stepped into a crucial diplomatic role as the US Iran ceasefire continues to hold, with ongoing efforts to resolve key disagreements between the two nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that Pakistan remains fully engaged in facilitating dialogue and promoting stability in the region.
Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister stated that the two week ceasefire between the United States and Iran is still intact. He emphasized that Pakistan’s political and military leadership worked tirelessly to bring both sides to the negotiation table after decades of tension.
The talks, hosted in Islamabad, marked a historic breakthrough as it was the first time in nearly 47 years that both countries engaged in direct face to face discussions at such a high level. Delegations from both sides spent over 20 hours in negotiations, although a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to both nations for accepting Pakistan’s invitation and acknowledged their appreciation for the country’s hospitality and neutral stance. He noted that Pakistan’s involvement played a significant role in maintaining the ceasefire and preventing further escalation in the region.
The negotiations included high profile figures such as JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner from the US side, while Iran was represented by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Abbas Araghchi.
The conflict, which began in late February, has had a severe impact on global markets, disrupted energy supplies, and caused thousands of casualties across the Middle East. Pakistan’s mediation efforts have helped ease tensions at a critical time, offering hope for a long term diplomatic resolution
