A tragic incident in Karachi has once again raised serious concerns about road safety and the movement of heavy vehicles in residential areas. Two young sisters lost their lives after falling from a motorcycle and being run over by an oil tanker in Nazimabad No 1 late Monday night.
According to police officials, the accident did not occur due to a direct collision between the tanker and the motorcycle. Initial investigations reveal that the motorcycle lost balance after hitting a damaged patch of road, causing the two girls to fall onto the road. Unfortunately, they came under a passing tanker at that moment, leading to fatal injuries.
A young boy who was riding along with the sisters survived the accident with only minor injuries, while the motorcycle itself remained largely undamaged. Rescue teams arrived at the scene quickly and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital. However, both sisters passed away before they could receive proper medical treatment.
Authorities have identified the victims as Easter and Angel, while the tanker driver, Maroof Shah, initially fled the scene but was later arrested by the police. The tanker has also been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
This heartbreaking accident highlights the growing issue of unsafe roads and reckless driving by heavy vehicle operators in Karachi. Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns about the presence of large vehicles in crowded areas, especially during peak hours. The condition of roads, including broken and damaged surfaces, further increases the risk of such deadly incidents.
The tragedy has sparked renewed calls for stricter traffic regulations, better road maintenance, and improved enforcement to prevent similar accidents in the future. Without immediate action, experts warn that such incidents may continue to claim innocent lives.
