A high level Pakistan Saudi defence meeting took place between Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, where both leaders discussed growing regional tensions and possible steps to prevent further Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia. The meeting was held under the framework of the Pakistan Saudi Joint Strategic Defence Agreement, which strengthens military cooperation between the two countries.

During the discussion, both sides focused on regional security, stability, and defence coordination. Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman stated that the recent attacks targeting the kingdom are harmful to the overall peace and stability of the Middle East. He emphasized that such actions increase tensions and could further destabilize the region.

The meeting comes after a sharp escalation in regional conflict following United States and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. In response, Iran reportedly launched missile and drone attacks targeting US bases across the Gulf region, including areas close to Saudi Arabia. These developments have raised serious concerns among regional allies.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Prince Khalid bin Salman confirmed that he had met with Field Marshal Asim Munir, who also serves as the Chief of the Pakistani Army. He expressed hope that Iran would act with wisdom and restraint, avoiding any miscalculations that could escalate the conflict further.

The discussions also referred to the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September last year. Under this landmark agreement, any attack on one country is considered an act of aggression against both nations, highlighting the deep security partnership between the two allies.

The agreement was signed in Riyadh by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, further strengthening decades of military cooperation and defence collaboration.

Meanwhile, Saudi authorities reported that several drones targeting the Shayba oil field in the Empty Quarter were intercepted and destroyed. In a separate incident earlier this week, a drone attack near the US Embassy in Riyadh caused a small fire, though no injuries were reported.

However, Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, denied any involvement, stating that Iran had no role in the attack on the US embassy in Riyadh.
