Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited parliamentary leaders and heads of political parties to attend an in-camera briefing on the worsening regional conflict and evolving security situation. The high level meeting is scheduled to take place in Islamabad at 11:30am on Wednesday and aims to build political consensus amid rising tensions at home and abroad.
According to Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister directed him to personally reach out to opposition leaders and party chiefs. He stressed that the discussion should rise above political differences and focus solely on national interest. Leaders have been requested to share their views without attaching preconditions to their participation.
However, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai suggested that the briefing should not be limited to selected members but expanded to the entire Parliament. He stated that given the dangerous regional developments, lawmakers must be fully informed. He confirmed that the opposition would respond by Wednesday morning after consulting with colleagues.
The meeting comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East have intensified following joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. At the same time, Pakistan is dealing with cross border threats from Afghanistan. The Pakistan Armed Forces are continuing operations under Operation Ghazab lil Haq, targeting militant elements involved in recent border escalations.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar confirmed that the prime minister himself will brief political leaders on both domestic security and regional challenges. The development highlights the urgency of political unity as Pakistan navigates complex geopolitical pressures and internal security concerns.
