The Toshakhana 2 case has once again drawn national attention after former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan approached the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of his sentence and release on bail due to serious medical concerns. The application, filed through his legal counsel, highlights both medical and humanitarian grounds for relief.

According to the plea, the 73 year old leader is suffering from a serious right eye ailment caused by a blood clot. His lawyers informed the court that his vision in the affected eye has reduced to only 15 percent, and the condition is too critical to be treated inside prison facilities. The petition states that his health issue recently surfaced during proceedings before the Supreme Court, strengthening the request for suspension of the sentence.

Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were convicted in December last year and sentenced to 17 years imprisonment each. The case revolves around the alleged under priced purchase and sale of luxury state gifts, including an expensive Bulgari jewellery set. After investigation by the National Accountability Bureau, the matter was later transferred to the FIA Anti Corruption Court, where over 80 hearings were conducted at Adiala Jail before the verdict was announced.

The court also imposed a combined fine of Rs16.4 million on the couple. However, the defence argues that the conviction forms part of what it calls political victimisation, claiming that investigative bodies such as NAB, FIA and ECP have been used to pursue politically motivated cases.

Alongside this petition, a separate request has been filed for early hearing of another case related to the Al Qadir Trust matter. The outcome of the Toshakhana 2 case bail plea is now being closely watched across the country.
