The Bangladesh Cricket Board has once again reiterated its refusal to tour India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, despite the International Cricket Council rejecting its request to move Bangladesh’s matches to another venue. The firm stance highlights ongoing security concerns raised by Bangladeshi officials regarding the safety of their players.

Bangladesh had formally asked the ICC to allow them to play their World Cup fixtures in Sri Lanka, which is co-hosting the tournament with India. However, the request was turned down following a board meeting held earlier in the day. The decision has intensified discussions between the cricket board and the Bangladeshi government.

Speaking after the ICC ruling, BCB president Aminul Islam said he had requested additional time from the ICC to consult with his government one final time. He stated that the ICC acknowledged the concern as a valid point and allowed him 24 to 48 hours to respond. Despite this, Islam made it clear that the board remains unconvinced about player safety in India.

He stressed that Bangladesh does not believe India is safe for its players and maintained that the preference to play matches in Sri Lanka has not changed. According to Islam, government decisions are not limited to players alone but take into account broader national considerations, which makes the issue more complex.

While expressing hope for what he described as a miracle, the BCB president said both the players and the government want Bangladesh to participate in the World Cup. However, he emphasized that security concerns outweigh sporting commitments at this stage.

The ICC, in its official statement, said the decision was made after reviewing comprehensive security assessments, including independent evaluations. According to the governing body, there is no credible threat to Bangladeshi players, officials, media personnel, or fans at any of the designated venues in India.

The ICC also noted that making last-minute changes to the tournament schedule would not be feasible and could create a dangerous precedent for future international events. As per the confirmed schedule, Bangladesh will play their group matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, facing teams including West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal.

With both sides holding firm positions, the situation remains tense as the World Cup approaches, leaving Bangladesh’s final participation plans uncertain.
