The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly witnessed a rare moment of complete unity as lawmakers from both the government and opposition jointly approved a resolution supporting the creation of a separate Hazara province. The proposal has been debated for many years, and this unanimous decision reflects strong political alignment on the issue.
Members also agreed on another key demand. They urged the federal government to increase KP’s share in the National Finance Commission award from 14.6 percent to 19.4 percent. Lawmakers argued that the higher allocation is crucial for meeting the province’s rising development needs, improving security, and supporting projects in the merged districts.
Several additional resolutions were passed during the session. One formally declared Zulfikar Ali Bhutto a national martyr, while another called for stopping the misuse of the Maintenance of Public Order law against political workers, stating that such actions weaken democratic freedoms. The assembly also supported the restoration of the tobacco quota for farmers, a long awaited demand for growers who rely heavily on this crop for their livelihood.
Lawmakers emphasized that ensuring fair financial resources is essential for KP’s long term progress. Without adequate funding, they said, the province cannot strengthen infrastructure, improve public services, or maintain stability in both settled and merged regions. The session ended with a clear message urging the federal government to address KP’s concerns without delay.
