President Donald Trump reacted strongly. He told Fox News that America would hit them hard and promised a response. Later in the Oval Office he described Iran as a failed nation whose military and economy already stand badly weakened. He insisted the latest exchange does not mean a return to full-scale war, yet he refused to rule out further action. When asked about nuclear weapons, Trump said there is simply no reason to use them because Iran is already defeated militarily.
US officials claim air defenses stopped every Iranian missile that could have caused real damage. At the same time Trump posted AI-generated videos showing Iran’s main oil terminal exploding. Iranian officials called the posts laughable. Vice President JD Vance explained that the president likes to send strong messages on social media.
The conflict has shifted heavily toward economic warfare. The United States keeps tightening secondary sanctions that punish countries still buying Iranian oil. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iran is lashing out because the sanctions are biting hard. New measures targeting banks are expected almost every week. Meanwhile the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, choking a fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian still says Tehran prefers a negotiated end to the fighting. He told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that continued war helps no one. Yet both sides keep signaling they will answer any new attack. After a brief ceasefire earlier this year and failed talks in June, the latest limited strikes show how quickly the situation can heat up again. Washington wants Iran’s nuclear program dismantled and its regional influence reduced. Tehran insists the strait will reopen only under its own terms. For now the fragile lull is over and tension remains high.
